Community Ride: Heartland & Gateway District

DATE:  Saturday, September 9, 2017 @ 9:30 am  (135 registered)

MISSISSAUGA BIKE CHALLENGE:  This Ride is designated as a Mississauga Bike Challenge Ride to encourage riders to complete as many kilometres as possible, to help reach our collective #Canada150 goal of 150,000 km and now beyond!  This achievement will earn well over 1000 trees to be planted in Mississauga as a legacy project!

START / END:  River Grove Community Centre (parking lot) at 5800 River Grove Avenue (map).  FREE ice cream back at the venue after the ride.

DISTANCE:  The full ride is 31 km.  A shorter ride option (16 km) is also offered.  Both route options will be fully marshalled for the entire distance.  PLEASE NOTE: The two (2) route options do not overlap beyond the starting point.  Riders need to choose their route at the beginning of the Ride.  Both rides return to River Grove Community Centre (from different directions).

FEATURES:  Major infrastructure projects under construction in Mississauga's employment Gateway: 1) New 2nd Line Active Transportation Bridge over Highway 401 (photo1; photo2) which will provide a safe crossing for cyclists over the 401 barrier and connect Heartland to Old Meadowvale.  2) New Cooksville Creek stormwater management facility under construction on Matheson Blvd West (one of the largest such retention ponds in Ontario).
