Citizen volunteers advising City Council on cycling issues

Community Ride: Ontario Summer Games (OSG - Mississauga)

DATE:  Saturday, August 13, 2016 @ 9:00 am  80 riders registered

MEET:  Adamson Estate, 850 Enola Ave (map) in Lakeview.

PARKING:  There is very limited parking (19 spaces) at the Adamson Estate.  Cyclists are encouraged to park at Lakefront Promenade Park (map) to the east, and ride the Waterfront Trail back to the Estate.

MEMORIAL RIDE:  This ride is dedicated as a Memorial Ride in tribute to Jocelyn Lovell, the Canadian cycling champion and icon (and Mississauga resident) who passed away in June 2016.  We'll give him a fitting hometown salute!  See this Cycling Canada article, reprinted after his death.

CITY PRESS RELEASE:  Click to view.  We are pleased Mayor Bonnie Crombie and Councillors Chris Fonseca and Jim Tovey will attend the Jocelyn Lovell Tribute at the start of this Memorial Ride to the Ontario Summer Games venue!  The brief Tribute takes place at the Lovell Home on the Waterfront Trail.  Bike bells will be rung at the conclusion.

FEATURE:  We will be riding to the Road Cycling Individual Time Trial competition at the OSG venue at Lakeside Park (map) in Clarkson.  Some riders may wish to stay for the Cycling Road Race, or may arrange to be picked up at the venue rather than ride back.  MCAC Marshals will leave for the return ride to Lakeview at 11:30 am.

NOTE: The FREE Community Rides are a series of casual cycling tours in all corners of Mississauga from May until October. Led by citizen member volunteers of the Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee (MCAC), these group rides are an opportunity for residents to explore Mississauga on their bikes. The 2016 Community Rides series is sponsored by Toronto Pearson Airport.
